Pastel Training Decimal Separator Error
When opening Pastel Partner / Xpress for the first time on a Microsoft Windows machine, you may receive the following Error Message:
“The decimal/thousand separators for number and currency formats are not the same. Please change your windows settings”
- Click on the Windows Start button at the bottom left-hand corner of your screen and then click on the Control Panel link.
- In older Windows versions, on the left-hand side of the screen, click on Classic View and then double click on the Regional and Language Icon.
- In older Windows versions, on the top right-hand side select Small Icons and then select the Region and Language icon.
- In older Windows versions, on the Regional and Language Options screen, select the Formats tab.
- Ensure that your Current format is English (South Africa) and click on the button at the bottom right-hand corner Customize this format.
- In Windows 7 upwards, on the Regional and Language screen, select the Formats tab.
- Ensure that your Format is English (South Africa) and click on the button at the bottom right corner Additional Settings.
- Numbers Tab… In the list separator option, (decimal symbol) change it from a comma to a full-stop DOT
- Currency Tab — decimal symbol must be a DOT.
If the symbol that you would like to use as your separator is not in the drop-down list, then in the field, press the symbol on the keyboard of the computer to insert it.
I have tried to enter xpress version 14 on windows 7 but it will not accept it . It says the decimal seperators for numbers and currency formats are not the same please change your window settings how do I fix this advice urgently please

Are you on a network? is there more then one pc with that has Pastel installed. Make sure they are all the same in regional settings.
This solution does work, and this is the only solution.
Regional settings…
Format… Additional settings…
Numbers Tab… decimal symbol must be a DOT
Currency Tab — decimal symbol must be a DOT
Check both the tabs are the same.

My decimal seperator in Pastel is a comma and not a dot – can I change it in Pastel after capturing has taken place?

Yes you can. No problem.
What’s the problem?
The OFFICIAL SYSTEM in SA is the continental SI system, in which the decimal separator is a comma (not a dot), and the thousand separator a space.
In the engineering and scientific fields that is what we normally use.
It’s the banks that should change, not the rest of us.

even if you change everything to a dot in windows after the pastel 18 update and latest window update. it makes any digit entered in cashbooks have extended leading zeros. for example R32.50 is written R325000000000000.00
the only way to rectify this is to make separator a comma in windows but then Pastel bank manager doesnt work as the banks use a dot.
phone pastel and they just say they working on it.

Sorry for this late reply. We had a death in the family, so I was not in Jo’burg.
I hadn’t heard of this happening. But I do know that there was a big fix, on the bank manager module.
Did you come right with this bug. Id be interested in your response.

I changed everything to dot but get the same message!

Please try to reset the regional settings, using the reset button… and then just change those two digits only and save.
Sometimes other settings are changed to suit Excel, and they affect the Pastel settings as well, but not in a good way.

Hi. Under Currency settings it is not allowing me to change decimal symbol to a dot. Keeps going back to a comma.
