HOW TO WRITE THE LEFT FUNCTION IN EXCEL IN THE CORRECT FORMAT
RETURNS THE SPECIFIED NUMBER OF CHARACTERS FROM THE START OF A TEXT STRING.
The left( ) function takes two arguments
1.The text you want to examine
2.The number of characters that excel should extract, starting from the string’s left side:
=LEFT(TEXT, NUM_CHARACTERS)
To take the first four letters from the text in cell a1, you’d use the formula:
=LEFT(A1,num_chars)
=LEFT(A1, 4)
EXAMPLE
=LEFT(A1,num_chars)
=LEFT(A1,2)
